In 2003 an outbreak of Monkeypox virus led to the federal ban of the capture, sale, & transport of prairie dogs.The source of the outbreak was later determined to be from an imported Gambian Pouched Rat, yet the FDA & CDC refused to lift the ban on prairie dogs. After 5 years the FDA & CDC finally gave in to pressure & rescinded the prairie dog ban.Limited prairie dog pups will be available in Spring 2009. Reservation Required. Contact for info.

Yes I'm so happy about this! I'm seriously searching for a pair of pouched rats, either emin's pouched or gambian pouched. I lost my pouchie last year and I'm desperate for them to be in my life again. They were the perfect pet for me. Prairie dog pups were fun to play with in pet stores... not sure how they'd be as pets for me though *smile* I'll be looking forward to seeing them yahooing again, come springtime!
